April: rest of the garden

This year for me is all about summer bulbs.

On the wooded side of the garden I have just received a big box of shade loving plants and the one I want to mention is Astilbe.   In many parts of northern Britain, our summers are brightened with these wonderful plants. They grow so well in our wet climate, and come back year after year - especially if you give them a little feed in the spring.

Earlier last month I'd been pulling out bushes to make room for raised beds. That part of the garden was overgrown, so now my raised beds are made and are now waiting to be put in.  As I've been ill, I'm hoping ‘nursey’ is going to give me the green light for a bit of light work, or I’ll need a team of volunteers to help me out!
